HMX-Smart AHU (Air Handling Unit)

An Air Handling Unit is normally a large metal box which connects to the ductwork that channels conditioned air throughout a building and returns it back to the AHU. Inside this large metal box there are a number of ventilators with different jobs to do. Air Handling Units supply fresh air to the room.

An Air Handling Unit draws in air from outside or the return duct. It then passes the air through a series of filters that remove particulate matter or impurities. After that, the air is heated or cooled to the desired temperature by passing over heating or cooling coils. Finally, the conditioned air is distributed throughout the building via ductwork, and the cycle repeats.

There are two main types of Air Handling Units — the ‘blow-through’ and the ‘draw-through’. The blow-through AHU has a fan which blows the air through the mixing box, cooling coil and filters before it goes to the ducting network. The draw-through AHU can be vertical or horizontal. It has a fan which pulls the air through the mixing box, cooling coil and filters before it goes to the ducting network.
